Just a fun blog

Last weekend we attended the 2nd Annual 'Burning of the Town' at Port Dover, Ontario, off of Lake Erie. The US Forces actually burned several mills in the area during the War of 1812, so some factual history we were able to re-enact. We belong to Brooks Detachment, US Marines, War of 1812. In the picture we (blue coats, center) are engaging the British in a minor fight. Nice town, good people.

Nice photo...I'm sure it was interesting. I grew up in Port Dover. Do you have any more photos or is their a website with more photos?
By the way, the 800 American troops under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel John Campbell burned all the houses in Port Dover (except one) and slaughtered the cattle. Campbell was later condemed for his actions by a US Army court of inquiry.
Best wishes,

Graham,
Here's the link to the Forty-First, a British outfit, they posted a number of photos.

Small world, the internet has created. We found Port Dover to be a very nice place & people, and plan to attend the event next year.
